This webinar, organised by ACAMH’s Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Special Interest Group, provided a unique platform to explore the subject of traumatic grief. Led by Dr Shelley Gilbert and Dr Saul Hillman, the session focused on understanding traumatic grief and bridging the gap between research and practice – a core principle of translational research.
The webinar highlighted research reviewed by Dr Gilbert and Dr Hillman, including 12 pivotal studies on bereavement in children and young people. This work, conducted in collaboration with Anna Freud/University College London and Grief Encounter, embodies the spirit of the Eric Taylor ‘Translational Research Into Practice’ Award, which recognises individuals making a sustained contribution to translating research into impactful practice.
By showcasing evidence-based approaches, innovative interventions and practical tools, the session emphasised the importance of transforming research into meaningful clinical and educational outcomes. It served as a powerful reminder of the potential to improve services and support systems for children and young people experiencing bereavement.
