GRIEF BOOK
The Grief Book is an award-winning activity book created by Dr Shelley Gilbert MBE to support children following the death of someone special, particularly a parent or sibling.
It gently guides children and families through the early days of grief and the longer journey of adjustment, helping them to process emotions, understand their experiences and begin to rebuild a sense of stability.
Through a series of structured, age-appropriate activities, the book supports children to:
- explore memories and maintain a connection with their loved one
- express and understand difficult emotions such as anger, fear and guilt
- develop language around grief and make sense of what they are feeling
- open up conversations with parents, carers and professionals
The book also provides a safe space for children to record thoughts and feelings, allowing them to revisit these over time as they continue their grief journey.
Designed primarily for ages 5–13, the activities can be adapted for younger children, teenagers and young adults, as well as for different types of loss.
